WASHINGTON PLANNING BOARD

Town Center Vision Subcommittee – Working Meeting Minutes

May 25, 2021

Members Present:  Jim Crandall, Ron Jager, Bert Bodner, Kevin Provencher and Nan Schwartz

Public attending: None

Crandall opened the meeting at 9:30AM.

1. Parking/Access issues – Crandall said that he and Provencher have met a few times and come up with a new idea. We reviewed the old plans and looked at a new concept. We are considering removing the piece of Halfmoon Pond Road and having it exit beyond the monument onto Rte. 31. This would eliminate the tangle of roads and reclaim some green. Crandall wants to eliminate the road in front of the Church and Schoolhouse and keep access and parking between the buildings. The access for funerals and weddings would be over the grass area. He and Kevin have explored having some parking on top of the leach field. He spoke with Costello who said it is a possibility. They will explore this more with Costello and Thayer, who has the septic plan. Jager still wants the steps up from the lower parking area. Schwartz is concerned about access deadheading between the buildings and that their plan has only one way in and out off Halfmoon Pond Road. Jager suggested that the access roads should be paved to keep things looking neat and not widen over time.

We walked the area and noted several utility items that might need to be relocated if we went with parking on the leach field. Crandall will show the plan to the Planning Board at their meeting.

2. Town Pound – Schwartz has a mock up of the sign with both versions of the text to share with the committee at the next meeting.

3. Other Issues – The Police Chief has asked for money in the warrant to purchase the solar speed sign for the north end of town this year.
